Great appatizers! Eggplant fries -- highly recommended. Pizza (all varieties) awesome flavour, high quality toppings. Great vibe, super service.

This place was understaffed during the time we went. The Kettering college just had graduated so there was an influx of people. So we had to wait a bit for the server however our server was 5 stars easy. Brittany did such a great job of making sure we had what we needed as soon as possible. She went above and beyond. She saved our experience here.

This is an excellent place for a bite and a drink. They interior is inviting and interesting. They love their brunch - they have a special menu just for it. They had some really neat and inventive dishes - the vegan breakfast sandwich was particularly appreciated in our party as our vegetarian friend can't often find flavorful or unusual dishes, let alone both. They use a lot of jackfruit, which is great! Their bar made several spot-on cocktails and drinks for us. I wish I'd seen that they have their own sodas, too. The staff was friendly, all the food was good and was great to look at, too.

Absolutely delicious! Great location and atmosphere. Super popular and busy so we called ahead and were put on the list. Once you check in they will call when your table is ready. If you go in a weekend I reccomend after 8:30. We had the eggplant fries and roasted brussel sprouts and apps. Then ordered the pizza special which was perfect! Had house made sodas which were refreshing and well made. I very good meal with very good service.

Wheat Penny is a very delicious and tasty place to stop in. Their pizzas are on point and the staff of always extremely upbeat and cheerful. I have yet to have a bad experience here. Their drinks are very nice as well. The bartenders always take great pride and put passion into each drink made. They also have amazing lunch specials as well.

Delicious brunch. Seriously, try the "eggs in hell". Effing amazing. And never crowded on the morning-weekends.

This is the only place I can get a gluten free pizza and dairy free cheese. They are also one of the only places that pre-cook their veggies before they put them on the pizza. The sauteed mushrooms, onions, and peppers taste great.

Great pizza! I was surprised by how many diners they had on a Monday at 2pm. Still plenty of tables open, but at least half full! We had a Wrigley Field, a Swine and Swim, and a sausage and garlic half with a mixed greens salad. Loved every bite. Next time through Dayton, I'm stopping again!

I looked in the Best of Dayton and this place ranked #3 out of 386 restrauants that were ranked. So my expectations were high. The Wheat Penny did not disappoint. I had the Green Lasagna. A spinich lasagna that was out of this world. I can see why it ranked so high. It was a little pricey. Stay away from the blackberry tea, it tastes like chewed bubble gum. All in all, the Food was excellent.

The food was very good, the service was outstanding, The waitresses were excellent. Would recommend it to my friends.

Delicious Char and very enjoyable arrugala and cauliflower salad. Nice wine and beer options as well with burgers, sandwiches and pizza too. Cool outside patio with large heaters in early spring.

My two pennies, this place is worth it!This place is known for its pizza but during my dining experience I had the salmon dinner with mashed cauliflower and broccolini. I was not disappointed. The dinner was well prepared and bursting with taste. The staff was courteous and expeditious. The price was right for what you get. There is a variety of alcoholic beverages that you can choose from. The only concern I had was parking; as it is limited.

One of my favorite places around Dayton to meet for dinner and/or drinks. Their pizza is superb. They make a mean Old Fashioned too! I enjoy their seasonal desserts and service is always awesome. A great place to frequent!

I lived here for 2 years and regret not knowing this gem was here. This smoked peach cobbler, yes smoked, is absolutely wonderful. Lots of great options for food and drinks. If you can go here I suggest you do so!

Excellent food and great cocktails. The staff are friendly and the service has always been good. We usually go on Sat or Sun for brunch since they can be packed in the evening.

Excellent food, friendly staff and great cocktails. First time I tried a special, which was essentially their Cacio a pepe with their squash and it was amazing. Went back and had the Osso Bucco and lived it. Had the polenta and broccolini as sides and these were the perfect compliments. Asked for the broccolini on the side, which was the right choice because the nice grill flavor isn't covered by the sauce. Osso Bucco is often heavy, but this one was a little smaller than normal and prepared with a tasty broth and tomatoes so I still felt energized and alert afterwards. Also felt like the ingredients must have been fresh and healthy because I woke up the next morning feeling incredible.

Vegan approved! Wheat Penny has the BEST pizza in Dayton, Ohio! Wow!!! The Veganator consisted of red sauce with smoked jackfruit, spinach, peppers, onions, and cashew ricotta cheeze. The Eggplant Fries were so addictive! They had a crispy rice coating and I dipped them in marinara sauce. The Ace Space Blood Orange Cider and the Ace Pumpkin Cider were refreshing! Wheat Penny, thank you for a great meal and drinks!

This was my first time at Wheat Penny and it was enjoyable. My only criticism is that the price was pretty high. They have a great cocktail list and made excellent mixed drinks. The biggest pro for me is the large amount of vegetarian options. They offer vegetarian "meat" balls that were wonderful! Additionally, the portabello sandwich rivaled any crispy chicken sandwich I have ever had. The pizza is good, but I felt the sandwich was the real star. I would return for the sandwich and the "meat" balls for a special occasion because as I mentioned they were a bit pricey.

We have visited this restaurant several times, I am NOT sure why I return. It has never really left a great impression. Too pricy for the amount of food, taste and drinks, and the decor needs a facelift. I’m glad so many enjoy it but I just don’t get it.

Food is really good, surprised me honestly. It is a wee bit pricey for the poor college kid me. But if you are totally okay with spending 13$ on a cocktail this is your place.

Food and service were great. Like going to meet friends and chat. No one hurries you.

I've been here like 5 times, never can I say I liked it. Mostly I've thought the prices are to high for the amount of food on the plate - with most of the dishes they serve. (Ex. The $8.95 salads come out on a salad plate - not a bowl, but a small plate. Or the personal sized pizza starting at $12) However!!!! This visit I had the cauliflower T-bone. This meal was amazing. A reason to want to go back. (It's normally a compromise when I go) Seasoned to perfection every bit was a delight. The wait staff is nice, anyone will help you. Hostesses are some of the sweetest people I have meet even when the place is crowded, there's an hour wait and no seating. (So patient and attentive) Now, about the bartenders: it felt like they had a pact to be miserable and share the attitude. Totally would have given this 5 stars if they weren't rude.

The service here is always exceptional. I frequent WP specifically for the eggplant fries with the yogurt sauce. They are my biggest weakness in life. These are a MUST TRY. Great places for lunch or dinner. 12/10 would recommend.

Fantastic Pizza!! We got the Tomaso pizza and the Artichoke heart white sauce pizza (forgot the name), and they were both amazing. The small pizza is a great size for an individual. I will definitely be returning soon!!

I had a truly excellent meal at Wheat Penny. The place is very cool, the food was really good, the beer selection was very well chosen and they were off the charts friendly and welcoming. Definitely check it out if you find yourself in Dayton.

A versatile menu that changes with the seasons. Top drawer ingredients that matches the quality of service. Come for lunch. Come for dinner. Bring Grandma. Bring a kid. Bring your crazy aunt. Bring a date that isn't your crazy aunt. Solid joint.

Rustic yet distinguished setting. The pizza is made fresh daily. Large enough CD areas for large parties. Not inexpensive but reasonable & you get what you paid for.

First time I was here a year ago the pizza was great. It has declined each time I've been. This time the pizza was quite burnt and they skimped on the good ingredients. But the price is the worst- 4 small pizzas $90!! The transgendered hostess dressed like a witch was offputting as well. But $90 for pizza is insane and not worth it at all.

Excellent food, wine, and service. Beautiful decor. Only drawback was the parking lot was full! :)I would definitely eat here again. The appetizers were delicious - fried eggplant fries, and roasted Brussel sprouts. The gluten free pasta was amazing and tasted home made. The dessert - buckeye ice cream - was the best I've ever had. Our server was kind and funny and very helpful. I would definitely go back! It's a little loud when it's busy, what with all the conversations, but it's a small price to pay for the fabulous food and service.

Tonight was our first night there and we loved it. The Veganator pizza was delicious, and the heated outdoor patio was nice and cozy. Our waitress was very sweet too. We'll definitely be going back!

Our group of seven enjoyed a leisurely 3 hour meal. There seemed to be several large groups. Plenty of space to handle them all. We had reservations. The place was full, as was the parking lot, so we parked down the street. The menu is not your normal selection, though there is pizza. Our pizza was slightly crispy and our server apologized profusely, offering to have them remade if necessary. We didn't feel the need. They made a smaller child size pizza for the one young person in our group. He liked it so much he ordered another. I didn't notice any music playing and we could hear other without problem. The Philadelphia sandwich was good. Pasta portions were large for a full size. Everything was good, but nothing was memorable for me. Even the buckeye icecream was just okay.

Each time I eat at Wheat Penny I find some great new dish. This time it was dessert. The Vanilla Ice Cream Our Way was mind blowing. The simple topping of olive oil and Maldon salt with crushed dark chocolate was just an incredible flavor combo. The Cauliflower Tbone entree was flavorful and cooked just right. The spaghetti squash with olive oil was even better.

This was a dinner location chosen for a night during a conference. If I lived closer I would eat my way through the offerings. The menu had something for everyone and it was all excellent. Try the Eggplant Fries and the Butternut Squash with chili breadcrumbs. The staff was lovely and attentive. The prices were on point. Go! Eat! Enjoy!

This place is worth a try. They serve big portions for affordable prices. Regularly well organized and with awesome character. Will visit here again.

Picked the place randomly for brunch and I definitely found a gem. While it can be a little pricey I have yet to find something I did not enjoy. The drinks are well made, the service is great, and it is rarely busy. This has become a traditional stop ever since.

Great food. You can taste that everything is made with fresh and high quality ingredients. Patio seating was very relaxing. Great atmosphere and service. Highly recommend for a date or small group!

I went there for a business lunch this week. I loved the eggplant fries. It’s an appetizer but could be a lunch plate. Just the right size!

Food is GREAT!! Just stopped eating pork..beef and chicken! Love having somewhere to eat with veggie choices.. Eggplant fries are superb!!! And a very Awesome friendly staff!!!

We called ahead and waited 1.5 hours to be sat. There were 4 tables open in the restaurant and we were informed that the hostess had to check with the server if she was "doing okay" before she gave us a table. I have never been to a restaurant that doesn't seat people until the server is spoken to first for approval. While that was odd, the food was decent for the price. Our server, I believe her name was JJ, was very informative of the menu. She was obviously stressed in her work environment but always greeted our table with a smile. She made the experience worth the cost and wait.

Arrived at 4:35 Saturday, order taken at 5:00 but worked out because we wanted to try a dinner plate. 3 of us shared 2 appetizers and 1 dinner plate. Eggplant fries cooked well, served hot but salty. Meatball appetizer ditto. Mahi-mahi $28, not much flavor. Loved spaghetti squash and green beans. Service was very good, nice staff, nice place. Overall, food was well prepared but not to my taste. If it is to your taste you'll love the restaurant.
